Blue Light Kills Acne Bacteria; Red Light Heals Acne Trauma
"[Blue] Light gets at the core of what causes acne eruptions: P. acnes, the bacterial responsible for causing acne inflammation, pumps out tiny molecules called porphyrins. When those porphyrins are exposed to certain wavelengths of light, they produce free radicals that kill the bacteria. Without P. acnes around to cause inflammation, acne clears up." American Academy of Dermatology
Research reported in the British Journal of Dermatology (July 2000) found that regular sessions under blue and red light has been shown to "radically" help clear acne in moderate and less severe cases.
In many cases, one or two 40 minute sessions a week can reduce acne bacteria as well as powerful antibiotics such as isotretinoin (marketed as Accutane®), without the potential side effects, including the risk of birth defects.
These high tech LED treatments can be combined with time-tested acne regimens which may include Glycolic Peels and Laser Genesis™ or ALA Acid Resurfacing for even better results in more severe cases. |
